e-Shram Card — national ID for unorganised workers
Government of India (Ministry of Labour and Employment)
Overview
A government-issued identity card for unorganised sector workers. It builds a national database of workers and makes it easier to access government schemes for insurance, financial assistance, pension and employment.
Registration gives a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) valid across India — especially useful for migrant workers. Benefits include accident insurance through PMSBY (up to Rs 2 lakh for accidental death or total disability and Rs 1 lakh for partial disability), access to a monthly pension after 60 through PM-SYM, and links to the National Career Service and Skill India.
Any unorganised worker aged 16 to 59 can register free on the e-Shram portal or at a nearby CSC; the card can be downloaded instantly as a PDF.
