Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) — Rs 12,000 to build a household toilet
Government of India (Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation)
Overview
A scheme that gives financial help to rural households without their own toilet to build one. It aims to end open defecation, improve hygiene and protect the health and dignity of rural people, especially women and children.
Eligible rural households (mainly BPL and identified APL) receive an incentive of Rs 12,000 per household to build a functional toilet, paid directly to the bank account after construction and inspection.
The Gram Panchayat or local authority identifies beneficiaries; applications can be submitted to the Gram Panchayat or rural development office. Convergence with schemes like MGNREGS also supports water availability and waste management.
