PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (rooftop solar)
Government of India (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy)
Overview
A central scheme to help households generate their own electricity with rooftop solar panels. Launched on 15 February 2024, it aims to reach one crore households. Any residential consumer with a valid domestic electricity connection can apply.
Central Financial Assistance (subsidy) is Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and Rs 18,000 for the additional kW, up to a maximum of Rs 78,000. The subsidy is paid directly into the beneficiary's bank account by DBT.
Surplus power can be fed to the grid through net metering to earn money. In West Bengal the scheme is implemented through the State's distribution utilities and designated agencies. Apply on the National Portal for Rooftop Solar, pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
