Job Card — VB-G RAM G / MGNREGS (rural wage employment)
Government of India (Ministry of Rural Development) and Government of West Bengal
Overview
Job Cards are issued under rural livelihood programmes such as VB-G RAM G / MGNREGS to provide employment and livelihood security to rural households. A Job Card is an official identity document that lets a registered household demand wage employment for unskilled manual work.
Rural households whose adult members (18 and above) are willing to do unskilled manual work apply to the Gram Panchayat and receive a Job Card. It records the names, photographs and entitlements of household members, along with workdays and wages.
When work is demanded, it is allotted under ongoing projects within a specified time, and wages are paid directly to bank or post office accounts. The works create rural assets such as roads, ponds and irrigation. The programme is run by Gram Panchayats, Block offices and district authorities.
