Aadhaar Enrolment and Seeding — getting an Aadhaar and linking it to services
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)
Overview
Aadhaar enrolment is the process of giving your demographic details (name, address and so on) and biometrics (fingerprints, iris scan, photo) to get the unique 12-digit Aadhaar number issued by UIDAI. Aadhaar seeding means linking that number to service records such as bank accounts or government schemes, so that identity can be verified easily and benefits reach the right person.
Aadhaar is an identity proof valid across India. It gives access to subsidies through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and makes opening a bank account and e-KYC easier. With Aadhaar seeded, subsidies and benefits are transferred directly, duplicate or fake records are removed, and services such as banking and LPG become easier to access.
Any resident of India — including newborn babies — can enrol. Visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre, fill in the form, submit proof of identity and address, and give your biometrics.
